Common Misconceptions about Occupational Therapy
As part of our Social Media Outreach series, we had the opportunity to have Assistant Professor Lim Geck Hoon address some common misconceptions about Occupational Therapy, shedding light on what OT truly involves across different settings and populations.

While many assume OT is limited to hospitals or employment-related support, the reality is far broader. OT empowers individuals across all ages and settings — from helping children with special needs to supporting injury recovery, promoting mental well-being, and enhancing everyday life for older adults.

This initiative is part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and foster a deeper understanding of OT as a diverse and impactful profession.
Thank you to A/P Lim Geck Hoon for sharing her perspectives, and to everyone who contributed to making this video possible.

What is Occupational Therapy?
To raise awareness about Occupational Therapy, the Publicity Team launched a video project that captured students’ perspectives on Occupational Therapy across the SIT Dover campus. The video showcased common misconceptions and provided insights into what OTs really do — from supporting children with handwriting challenges to helping clients adapt their daily routines and environments.

At its core, OT is all about empowering individuals to live meaningful lives — enabling them to participate in the activities that matter most to them.

This project was part of our ongoing efforts to raise awareness and deepen understanding of OT within the wider student community. We hope it sparks curiosity, conversation, and a greater appreciation for the work OTs do every day.
